Using Windows Movie Maker: Unfortunately we do not have any affiliation with Windows Movie Maker nor do we support its use with our products. As a courtesy to further support you with Windows Movie Maker, here is some information that we have gathered about this Microsoft product. Windows Movie Maker is video creating/editing software, included in Microsoft Windows Me, XP, and Vista. It contains features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration, and Auto Movie. New effects and transitions can be made and existing ones can be modified using XML code. Windows Movie Maker is also a basic audio track editing program. It can apply basic effects to audio tracks such as fade in or fade out. The audio tracks can then be exported in the form of a sound file instead of a video file. The first version was available for Windows Me in 2000, followed by Windows XP in 2001, including other XP editions. Development of Windows Movie Maker was abandoned after the release of Windows Vista; its replacement, Windows Live Movie Maker, is included with Windows Live Essentials, a free download from Windows Live; that does not have the same features as Windows Movie Maker.
Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista is compatible with Windows 7 and recommended by video editors, although Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is a stripped down version and does not include video capture. If you would like to know more about this product or any other Microsoft products you can follow the link provided. http://support.microsoft.com/ *DXG USA is not held liable and does not have any affiliation with the linked content. |

About Mac OS Compatibility: Although DXG USA does not advertise Mac compatibility, you can still transfer files (Pictures, videos, and MP3 files) from your camera to a Mac running OS X. To connect:
The driver and software CD that comes with the package will not function on a Mac. Therefore, if you have a camera that acts as a webcam, you will not be able to use the webcam function on the Mac. If you experience complications playing back the video files, you may need to convert the video format to one that is support on your computer. Freeware applications that can support the ASF (MPEG4) format include M-Player and VLC Media Player. Other applications, such as Play It Cool, are shareware applications that charge a nominal fee for registration. Before installing an application, make sure the version you have supports the ASF (MPEG4) format. There are numerous third-party websites that offer Mac media players that support the ASF (MPEG4) format. Try an Internet search, or visit one of these third-party software sites: www.sourceforge.net, or www.videolan.org. |

How to Convert AVI to MOV: Audio Video Interleave: known by its acronym (AVI) is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in as part of its Video for Windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. Like the DVD video format, AVI files support multiple streaming audio and video, although these features are seldom used. Most AVI files also use the file format extensions developed by the Matrox OpenDML group .These files are supported by Microsoft, and are unofficially called "AVI 2.0". Since it was developed for Windows 3.1 in 1992 it lacks some features found in newer containers like MPEG or MP4 or MOV, but is still widely used by consumers and even supported by some standalone DVD players. Although still supported in Windows and suitable for certain formats like DV, it's not a good general purpose container, and even Microsoft uses other containers for their own video formats. QuickTime: is a multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc., capable of handling various formats of digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation, music, and interactive panoramic images. It is available for Mac OS (Mac OS 9, 8, 7, etc.), Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The latest version is 7.6. The QuickTime (.mov) file format functions as a multimedia container file that contains one or more tracks, each of which stores a particular type of data: audio, video, effects, or text (e.g. for subtitles). Each track either contains a digitally-encoded media stream (using a specific codec) or a data reference to the media stream located in another file. Tracks are maintained in a hierarchal data structure consisting of objects called atoms. An atom can be a parent to other atoms or it can contain media or edit data, but it cannot do both. MOV: .mov (Quicktime Movie) is the multimedia format created by Apple Inc with its popular Quicktime player. It is widely used in digital video, media clips, audio, text, sound, and animation. It runs on both Windows and Mac OS and can use MP4 codec to support MP4 videos. Here are some links to help you convert AVI to MOV, MOV to AVI. Differences Between SD and SDHC: Secure Digital (SD) cards are flash memory cards that were developed from the older Multimedia Card (MMC) format. Standard SD cards range from 8MB-2GB. Due to the increasing popularity of SDHC cards, standard SD is considered a legacy format. Legacy simply means older or outdated. Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards have the same form factor as standard SD cards. However, their capacity ranges from 4GB-32GB. SDHC cards are rated by class, and there are three classes that exist: 2, 4, and 6. There are a number of differences between SD and SDHC, beyond the size comparison. Worth mentioning is the fact that SD cards will work in SDHC compatible devices, but SDHC cards will not operate in a device that is not SDHC compatible. In other words, SDHC is not backward compatible. Among the differences are the file system and the way they are identified by devices. Standard SD cards use the FAT16 file system. The FAT16 system supports a maximum of 2GB. On the other hand, SDHC uses FAT32, which can support up to 32GB. SD cards are identified by a 128-bit string from the card. Standard SD cards use 12 of the bits to identify the number of memory clusters, and 3 of the bits to identify the number of blocks per cluster. This yielded only a maximum of 1GB. Later, a new technique used 4 (instead of 3) bits for block identification. This standard is called the 1.x, which supports up to 2GB. Conversely, SDHC cards use 22 of the bits to identify the memory size (increments of 512KB), but only 16 bits are allowed to be used. This allows a maximum limit of 32GB. The SDHC standard is 2.0. Additionally, there are 2-bits used to identify the type of card: 0=Standard, 1=HC, 2=Reserved and 3=Reserved. Devices that do not support SDHC will not be able to read this code, and therefore cannot correctly identify the card. |

What is Format: Keep in consideration that formatting a memory card will erase everything that’s on the internal and external memory. Formatting the unit clears the card and is used as kind of a "reset" for cards to clear the random file debris that ends up floating around after repeated use. This is also a good method to use to prevent corrupt files. Corrupt files can come from other devices that you may have used with your memory card for example a USB flash drive or another camera. In addition, this will invert the company default settings back to zero by emptying out the file system, it will check for compatibility rates with the memory card this process will prepare the memory card for use with our unit and have better proficiency bit rate and file transfer. |

DVD Burning: Please keep in consideration that we do not support ripping or burning DVD’s, this is beyond the scope of our services. The extend of our support only relates to the camera itself. However, in an effort to better assist you, keep several things in mind. If a burn fails it could be a combination of things. What software are you using? Does that software provide the latest drivers? Check the website for your burning software and be sure you have the latest update and patches. Does your hardware support the software? If your burner was included with your original system, you should check the PC manufacturer’s website for the latest driver information and specifications to make sure you’re up to date. Note: Does your burning software support the video format, for example AVI (Audio Video Interleave) if not you will need to convert the format to incorporate it with your software for example AVI to MPEG (Moving Pictures Expert Group) or QuickTime Format, Windows Media Format. You can tell what format your file is in by checking the properties. In addition during the burning process, do not interrupt you PC with any other tasks; this might cause the burn to fail. Also double check your write speed it may be too fast for the drive or the media. For safety measures only work with one software programs. Close anything in the background out. It’s also possible that your burner is not working correctly. Run any diagnostics that have been provided by the manufacturer. Keep in mind that you are transferring a high definition file. This is an extremely large file. Make sure your computers processor meets our packages specifications. (Example: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz) for best results.

Digital and Optical Zoom: The camcorder is equipped with 5x optical zoom and 10X digital zoom. Optical zoom uses the optics (lens) of the camera to bring the subject closer; Optical zoom lenses physically extend to magnify your subject. A motor controls the lens movement. When you press the switch to "W" or "T," the subject is either magnified or reduced in size. The "W" stands for "wide-angle" (reduce). The "T" stands for "telephoto" (magnify). What digital zoom does is enlarge a portion of the image, thus ’simulating’ optical zoom. In other words, the camera crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. This magnification process is called interpolation. To make the cropped area bigger, digital zoom makes up, or interpolates, pixels to add to the image, which may give less than satisfactory results. The Zoom indicator on your camcorder LCD monitor allows you to see how much optical zoom you use before the digital zoom is activated. This will be made visible by the zoom indicator turning from optical (light blue) to digital (dark blue). The indicator will change a third of the way down before reaching full zoom capacity. |
