PCMag.com’s Roundup of DXG’s 2010 Camcorder Line

pcmag_logoWe had a great meeting with PJ Jacobowitz, consumer electronics analyst at PCMag.com, in New York last week and he wrote a great roundup on what DXG has in store for this year. Stay tuned for lots of exciting camcorders that will suit your lifestyle – whether you are fashion-conscious, a sports adventurist or want to capture life in 3D…we have something for everyone!

Hands-On with DXG’s 3D Pocket Camcorder

This summer, DXG will be refreshing its camcorder lineup with new, affordable models that are fashion-focused, waterproof, and even one that will capture 3D video.

The last 3D camcorder I saw in person was the $21,000 Panasonic Twin-Lens Full HD 3D camcorder at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Though DXG’s camcorder will not offer prosumer-level image quality, it will be affordably priced at just $599.99. Like the Panasonic model, the DXG 3D View will capture true 3D video since it is equipped with two lenses and two image sensors.

The 3D video captured by the DXG will be in standard-definition (640 by 480 at 30 frames per second) and can be played back on 3D HDTVs, though only on those that require 3D glasses. It will also be able to capture 5-megapixel still images in 3D or 2D.

Included in the $599.99 price will be a 7-inch 3D digital frame, which will be able to play back still images and video. The 3D frame is stereoscopic, as is the camcorder’s 3-inch LCD, so you won’t need 3D glasses to view the 3D effect. This camcorder will be available in July.

Next up were the fashion-focused models, or the DXG Luxe Collection. Last year, the company created models that had Burberry designs, but due to legal issues, they never made it to market. This year, DXG tweaked the patterns on the camcorders to avoid legal problems. The models will features HD video (720p30), HDMI, 3-inch LCDs, and a horizontal form factor; they will retail for $149.99. Later in the year, a fashion line with vertical form factors also will be released.

Waterproof HD camcorders will be offered in two form factors, vertical and horizontal. Both 720p30 models will be priced at $129.99, while the 1080p30 models will be priced at $149.99. All models are waterproof up to 10 feet deep.

DXG’s top-of-the-line DXG Pro Gear DXG-A85V HD is priced at just $329.99, and will offer 1080p30 video captures, 12x optical zoom and attempts to offer features you’d find in $500+ camcorders, including high-quality video, a manual focus locking system, and a touch-sensitive LCD screen to focus on subjects.

DXG will also target the sub-$100 dollar market with the DXG QuickShot. This camcorder offers 720p30 captures, a 2.4-inch LCD, six color options, and a price point of just $79.99.
