McKinsey Quarterly: Consumer Electronics Gets Back to Basics

An interesting consumer report and survey was published this month by McKinsey Quarterly highlighting the fact that most consumers never use the advanced and expensive new features on their consumer electronics (CE) devices.  By surveying nearly 2,500 people along with in-depth interviews, the results indicated that consumers are looking for easy-to-use CE products, priced 30 to 50 percent lower than the standard offering.

Forget all the bells and whistles, people want simple, quality products and features that they will actually use.  A very interesting finding from their research was that durability was by far the most important aspect of quality for most CE customers.

DXG’s core focus has always been on making simple, affordable, quality digital video products that provide an intuitive and fun video capture experience for our consumers. So, it looks like we’re right on track as we head into 2010!
